We have wonderful locally sourced seafood in the quick fire raffle lots, delicious food hot off the grill served throughout the day, homemade baked goods, live music, rides galore for the older kids (and the young at heart), a Little Wanderers area for the preschoolers and a brilliantly supported silent auction with prizes including a large selection of wine from the numerous local vineyards to bid on, ensuring you come away with some great bargains.
To add to the vintage country fair atmosphere and to keep you musically entertained, the PIPI PICKERS will be playing throughout the day.
Just a short one hour drive north from Auckland and 10 minutes form Matakana Village and Markets, it’s a lovely, enjoyable and quick trip to visit us on what is always a great day.
Local Area Information
From the North
You can take Hwy 1 south to Warkworth, turning left at the first set of traffic lights, and follow the signs towards Leigh / Goat Island Marine Reserve. Or for a more scenic drive, you can take the Wellsford turn-off towards Pakiri. (The Pakiri route is not recommended for caravans or large vehicles as it is gravel most of the route, and is often narrow and winding.)
Take Hwy 1 north to the end of the motorway at Puhoi (note that the motorway is a toll road from Orewa to Puhoi. See the Land Transport website for tolls and instructions for payment), and continue on to Warkworth. At the third set of traffic lights in Warkworth, turn right and follow the signs 22km to Leigh.
Once in Leigh, you won’t be able to miss the Gala! It is held on the Leigh School fields and the school is on the main street through the village, next to the fire station and across from the Leigh General Store.
Little Farmers Market
If you love farmers markets you will feel right at home. Every year we have a large assortment of plants for sale, ranging from organic seedlings, herbs, vegetables, flowers to larger plants and natives donated by a variety of local business including our long time supporters Tumbleweed, Liberty Trees and Protea Patch Nurseries.
You can literally stop and smell the roses - there will be gorgeous bouquets of freshly picked roses from Whangateau Roses, and lots of freshly harvested produce including lettuces, courgettes, sweet red peppers/capsicums and chilies from HomeFresh, Hamlet Grove, Southern Paprika and Matakana Chillies respectively.
A new addition to the stall this year is both new and pre-loved garden and outdoor items to help cultivate or enjoy your purchases!
Vintage Clothing Pop-Up Shop
Back by popular demand is our Vintage Clothing pop-up shop, with pre-loved vintage and designer clothes, shoes, bags, accessories and jewelry. If you want to dress to impress at a fraction of the cost then this is a Gala must stop.
Leigh, Matakana, Pakiri, Omaha, Snells Beach & Warkworth businesses always give generously to the silent auction.
Prizes on offer range from accommodation packages, activity and dining vouchers, kids clothes & toys, garden & landscaping supplies, massages, beauty treatments, designer clothing & accessories, café & restaurant vouchers, home wares and sports equipment. There will be something for everyone, whether you are a local or a visitor just up for Labour weekend.
The auction closes at 1.30pm so make sure you get your bids in before then!
